Total licensed capacity

For licensed family child care homes with ExceleRate ratings of bronze, silver, or gold, the total licensed capacity of the home.

Source of data: Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA)

Geographic region: These data are available by state, county, township, state House district, state Senate district, congressional district, ISBE region, IDHS region, municipality, ZIP Code ZCTA, ZIP Code postal, unit and elementary school district, and Chicago Community Area.

Notes:

  • The “total capacity across sessions” operated by a family child care home may be greater than the “total capacity” at any one time for the family child care home. For example, a family child care home that has a “total capacity” of five children at any one time may serve five children in one all-day session (for a total of five children served). There are a small number of homes that serve children in half-day sessions. These may serve five children in each of two half-day sessions (for a total of 10 children served).
  • The “total capacity across sessions” for children under age 2, children age 2, and children ages 3 and 4 operated by a family child care home may also be less than the “total capacity” at any one time for the family child care home, as reported in IECAM. For example, a family child care home that has a “total capacity” of six children at any one time may serve only four children age 0-5, the other two children being school-age.
  • Total licensed capacity is not the same as enrollment. The number of children enrolled may be less than the total licensed capacity.
  • INCCRRA notes that data for some sites are not included. Therefore, the total capacity reported here may not be identical to the true total capacity. INCCRRA collects these data for purposes of parental referral, rather than for the specific purposes of the design of IECAM.
