U.S. Census Releases American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Yr Statistics (2016–2020)

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released new statistics from the 2016–2020 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates.
The ACS is an ongoing survey that provides data every year about the social, economic, housing, and demographic characteristics of America’s communities. Results give Illinois communities the current information they need to plan investments and services, such as those that support young children and their families. In November 2021, the bureau announced that for the first time, the release of these statistics would be delayed (to March 2022 from December 2021) because of the impacts of COVID-19 on data collection.
The 2016–2020 ACS 5-year estimates are available for more than 40 topics and can be found on data.census.gov.
Note that young children ages birth to age 4 continue to be undercounted in the 2020 Census despite efforts to address this problem.
