Shortage of Early Childhood Teachers in Southern Illinois Causing Trouble for Local Learning Centers

A recent article in the Southern Illinoisan is drawing attention to the early childhood teacher shortage in Southern Illinois. According to the article, it is getting more difficult for centers to find people who can meet the minimum requirements for early childhood teachers. Then, even when qualified teachers are hired, these centers can’t compensate at the same rates as school districts and so these teachers leave for better paying teaching jobs with the districts.

This staffing crisis has created long waiting lists for early childhood care in Southern Illinois.
