The National Conference of State Legislature (NCSL) has tracked 2018 legislation across the United States related to child care, prekindergarten, home visiting, parent engagement and support, governance structure and program financing, and has released this report summarizing the bills that were passed into law.

In Illinois, five early childhood care and education laws were enacted. These pertain to child care assistance eligibility, child care center inspections, chronic absence data collection for publicly funded early childhood programs receiving block grant funding, and early childhood licensure requirements.
