New Report on Educator Shortage Shows 20% of Early Childhood Positions in Illinois Remain Unfilled or Filled by an Unqualified Professional

A new report from the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools, Southern Illinois University and Goshen Education Consulting demonstrates that teacher shortages in the state are continuing to increase in severity. Staff categories having the highest percentage of unfilled positions include early childhood teachers, special education teachers, library/media specialists, school pyschologists, social workers, foreign language teachers and more.

The report provides three policy recommendations as well as numerous infographic heat maps, charts and tables to show regional differences, demographics and demographic relationships, district types, and differences between the 2017 and 2018 surveys.
