2019 Report on Public Education in Illinois Uses IECAM Data to Advocate for Expanded Access to Quality Early Childhood Programs

A new report from Advance Illinois analyzes and visualizes early childhood data provided by the Illinois Early Childhood Asset Map (IECAM) and urges the state of Illinois to expand access to quality programming.

The report, the 2019 edition of The State We’re In, measures Illinois’ educational performance from early childhood through postsecondary and tracks how students have performed over the past decade and how that performance compares with students in other states.

According to the analysis, only about 50 percent of children in low-income homes from birth through age 4 are served, even when prioritizing families in need. Moreover, early childhood service access is uneven across the state with some areas having few to zero publicly supported programming for children in need.
