Data Releases & Methodology by Year
Following the practice of the U.S. Census Bureau, each year IECAM demographers prepare a “data release” that includes the new data for the most recently available year plus updated data for the previous several years. Each year’s release is slightly more accurate than the previous year. The five-year span is based on IECAM’s use of the 5-year ACS (American Community Survey) as one of its principal demographic data sources.

Thus the label “2013 Data Release” means “first time release of demographic data for 2013.” The history of IECAM’s data releases is as follows:

As the list indicates, data for a given year are released two years after the data year.

Note that the names of the data releases listed on this page were changed in July 2014. Previously, IECAM had named the release after the year in which the data were released, rather than the year of the data themselves. For example, the 2011 release which reports data for 2011 in year 2013 was formerly called the 2013 release. The new naming convention is more in keeping with the naming conventions of the Census Bureau.

Data Availability and Data Archive
Besides its data on early care and education services in the state of Illinois, IECAM provides demographic data on population, poverty, language, and working families. These demographic data in IECAM include estimates for each year beginning with 2005 (corresponding to Fiscal Year 2006, the first year for which IECAM reported early care and education data) based on U.S. Census Bureau data products.

  • Table 1. IECAM Data: Availability of data types by year
This table lists what data types (early care and education services; demographics) are available on IECAM, and what years are available for those data types.
  • Table 2. IECAM Data: Data types displayed by year
When you select a year while searching for data on IECAM, the search results for each data type display the most recent year’s data up to the selected year. This may not be the same as the year you selected. (For example, you might select the year 2015, but the most recent data on population might be for 2014.) This table indicates what data year is available when you select a display year for a given data type.
  • Table 3. IECAM Data: Data available by geographic region
This table tells you what geographic regions are available for each data type on IECAM.
  • Table 4. IECAM Data: Additional data available beyond the online database
Data available on IECAM outside the online database, especially in the Risk Factors section of the Web site.

The estimates for all years from the latest release are available in IECAM’s publicly searchable database. Data from previous releases can be downloaded in Excel files from the IECAM Demographic Data Archive.
