Population numbers are provided for the number of children under age 5 who are:
- American Indian and Alaska Native Alone
- Asian Alone
- Black or African American Alone
- Hispanic or Latino (of any race)
- Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander Alone
- White Alone
- White Alone, Non Hispanic or Latino
Source of data: IECAM demographers prepared estimates of population based on Census Bureau estimates for the following programs or surveys:
- Population Estimates Program v2013, for years 2011, 2012, and 2013
- American Community Survey 2013, 5-year estimates
These data are available for the following geographic areas: state, county, township, municipality, IL state senate district, IL state house district, US Congressional district, Elementary School District, Unit School District, Zip Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA), Chicago Community Area, and by ISBE region and IDHS region, which are sums of counties.
Note on race/ethnicity categories: These race/ethnicity categories and their labels are as indicated by the Census Bureau in its series of tables B01001. To the label for Hispanic or Latino, IECAM has added “of any race” in its database displays to remind users that, unlike the other categories, this category is not mutually exclusive with the other categories. That is, individuals who identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino may also identify themselves as belonging to another category. The census also has categories for “some other race alone” and “two or more races.”
Note on age range: These data represent children age 0 through 4. This is in contrast to the data that IECAM reports for total population of children, which is for children age 0 through 5, as well as of children at individual age cohorts age 0 through 5. Therefore, with these data on children by race/ethnicity, the total number of children age 0 through 4 is also provided for purposes of calculating percents.
Date of data: 2013
